Backswing Depth

Improving your golf swing can be a daunting endeavor.  Many players make the mistake of jumping from tip to tip.  In my opinion that is not the best way to improve.  Using a system to identify and solve problems is what I do each and every session with my players.  This player was not creating enough backswing depth. This limited the swing arc length causing him massive contact issues.  I instructed the player to pull back his right foot, but keep his shoulders square to the target.  I asked him to flex his left knee and straighten his right knee at the beginning of the backswing.  Then I asked him to move his right hip to his tailbone.  These simple but specific instructions produced the photo on the right above.  The club went more around the player, the club face is closed to the shaft and he created enough hip depth to give him a bigger pathway back to the ball from the inside.  The player immediately felt the difference in the quality of the contact.  Now it is time for this player to practice these pieces until our next session.
